Diversity, Equity & Inclusion
The Pride flag has taken many different forms over the years. The Pride Progress flag was designed by American artist, Daniel Quasar, in 2018. Incorporating the original design by Gilbert Baker with rainbow stripes, it also adds stripes in an arrow shape to represent forward movement and the need for more inclusivity. Click here to read more about the history of the Pride Progress flag.

Westport Public Schools K-12 Visual Arts Show at MoCA, Westport June 12-19
The Westport Public Schools Visual Arts program is excited to share a new art exhibition, SPARK, showing June 12-19 at MoCA, Westport. Inspired by the imagination and self expression of Westport students, SPARK is a K-12 showcase representing the creative spirit at work in our schools each day.
In partnership with MoCA, their Teen Council, and WPS Visual Arts students, this exhibition serves as a collective platform for students in the visual arts to share their artistic voices.
Join WPS for an opening reception at MoCA June 12, 12:00-2:00pm. SHS students will be hosting a pottery fundraiser at the event, selling small bowls created by SHS potters. All funds raised are to benefit The Open Door Shelter in Norwalk. For information about MoCA and gallery hours go to mocawestport.org. For more information about the Visual Arts at WPS go to westportpsarts.org and staplesart.org.
Westport Library
This summer we are offering Summer Learning Clubs for students entering grades 1-3, 4 & 5, and middle school. Topics and registration are on a weekly basis, with each class beginning on Monday and concluding on Tuesday. Mondays will center around a blend of inquiry, design, research, writing and the arts. The Tuesday class will carry over the deep work from Monday, and be focused on math, science and revision, testing and technology, with students creating a physical representation of their learning. Using a Project Based Learning model, students will work together to solve challenging problems that are authentic, curriculum-based, and interdisciplinary. Following this format, learners will decide how to approach a problem and what activities to pursue in their unique approaches. They gather information from various sources and plan, synthesize, analyze, and derive knowledge from it. Their learning is inherently valuable because it connects to something real and organic and promotes essential skills such as collaboration, revision, and reflection. In a culminating activity, students will demonstrate their newly acquired knowledge and communicate this with others. Throughout this process, the teacher's role is to guide and advise rather than direct and manage the student's work.
We think these classes are an excellent way for parents to fill in weeks when their children are home, and for middle school students, for after day camp. Information on all of these classes can be found at https://westportlibrary.org/
Information and registration links for grades 1 – 3 (taught from 9 am – noon) can be found at https://westportlibrary.org/
Information and registration links for grades 4 – 5 (taught from 12:30 pm – 3:30 pm) can be found at https://westportlibrary.org/
Information and registration links for middle school students (taught from 4pm – 5 pm) can be found at https://westportlibrary.org/
