In May, we continue to celebrate the heritage and contributions of the Asian-American Pacific Islander (AAPI) and Jewish American communities.
AAPI: Did you know that the first woman of color elected to Congress in 1964 was a third-generation Japanese American from Hawaii, Patsy Takemoto Mink? She was instrumental in the passage of the Title IX Amendment of the Higher Education Act, which helps prevent discrimination based on one's sex in schools. This legislation was renamed Patsy T. Mink Equal Opportunity in Education Act in 2002. At its passing, it had a far-reaching impact on girls and continues to be a key foundation to help prevent discrimination based on a student's sex in schools. Click here to learn more.
Jewish American Heritage: We invite you to visit the National Museum of American Jewish History’s Hall of Fame to find out more about eighteen individuals who made an impact on our world. Do read about how a father's beliefs for women and his love for his daughter helped make a well-known Jewish tradition more inclusive - Mazel tov!
