Kings Highway School's second-grade teachers assigned an engaging project to students as part of their Social Studies unit titled, “Remembering the Past.” The guiding question for the unit was “How do different sources of information like music, film, newspapers, monuments, and stories tell us about the past and about how people and groups made a difference in the past?" For the culminating project, each student was asked to create a monument honoring a person who was important to them, using materials at home.  Monuments included not only well-known people from history but also student's parents, grandparents, siblings, and other people who have made a difference in their lives.
