Classes at Kings Highway School were actively engaged in learning about Martin Luther King Jr. Day. Ms. Shugrue’s fourth graders collaborated with Ms. Aguilar’s first graders after watching Martin's Big Words: The Life of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Together, they wrote about their dreams for a better world. Some of their heartfelt hopes included peace, protection for animals similar to how people are cared for, and access to hospital care for everyone, regardless of financial means. Meanwhile, Ms. Gonzales’ class explored the power of words and their ability to inspire change. Students brainstormed and wrote their own original quotes or meaningful phrases that could positively impact the world.
