Ms. Johnson’s second graders at Kings Highway School read The Arabic Quilt by Aya Khalil, which inspired them to create a paper quilt with their names written in Japanese. A student suggested the idea, and his parent visited to share elements of Japanese culture, writing each child’s name and its meaning on a notecard. Students copied their names onto quilt pieces with some help to form the letters. It was a meaningful and engaging experience that the class loved. At KHS, we are curious about one another!
