At the Kings Highway School Culture Club meeting, students celebrated Hispanic Heritage Month. They explored a variety of books to learn about different aspects of Hispanic heritage, such as famous figures, Spanish-speaking countries, and diverse customs. Students jotted down interesting facts they discovered to share with their families. They also listened to a story about Mexican artist, Frida Kahlo, learning how she often included her beloved animals in her paintings. As a fun follow-up, the students participated in a creative activity where they rolled dice to design their own "alebrije"—fantastical creatures traditionally carved from wood and painted in vibrant colors, originating from Oaxaca, Mexico. They were excited to bring the materials home to try the game with their families!
