Assistant Principal

Michele Cerino joined Westport Public Schools in 2018 as the Elementary Literacy Coordinator, arriving with extensive experience in urban, suburban, and magnet schools as a teacher, and school administrator. Ms. Cerino’s 30 year career in education includes Turnaround Principal of Luis Munoz Marin School, Bridgeport, CT, which Yale University named a flagship RULER school under her leadership.

Prior to her tenure in Bridgeport, Ms. Cerino served as the assistant principal at ACES Wintergreen Interdistrict Magnet School where she led initiatives in mindful schools, arts-infused learning, and integrated curriculum. She taught English/Language Arts and Social Studies in grades 6-8 in Westport, New Haven and Milford. Ms. Cerino is a member of the Tri-state Consortium and the Connecticut Reading Association. She is certified in Restorative Practices, Responsive Classroom and Mindful Schools. Ms. Cerino has spoken locally and nationally as an advocate for educating the whole child and for equal access for all students.

Ms. Cerino earned her Bachelor of Fine Arts at Emerson College Boston, MA, with a major in Theater Arts. She completed graduate studies at Southern Connecticut State University earning a Masters of Science in Elementary Education and a sixth year degree in Educational Leadership.

Ms. Cerino enjoys paddle boarding, yoga, and the beach with her 2 year old grandson Charlie.

Recent News

Students and teacher at table during math lesson

Kindergarten is in their first year of implementing the Developing Roots math program. Our KHS math coach, Caitlin Walsh, visited Ms. Doherty’s class to facilitate a "shelf day." Kindergarteners rotated around the room to stations with a purpose of reinforcing new learning, practicing previously learned skills, or extending and enriching taught concepts.

KHS is Pink Event

Kings Highway School loves to come together to support a good cause. October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month and KHS wanted to show support of a cause that has affected our community. Our PTA led a “KHS is Pink” event on Saturday. Parents, students, and staff came to turn our lawn pink!
